Weekly Photo Challenge: Happy Place 3

This is the 3rd Happy Place to feature this week and it is the fields behind my house.

I went there this morning and saw many birds but the noisiest were these Siskins who scrape and grind by way of birdsong….not the most lovely sound! They are, on the other hand, very lovely themselves!

This lady Siskin, we shall call her Suzie, was just sitting in this birch tree grating out her song and enjoying the sun!

“Oy!” said Suzie, “Enough of the photography!”

 

These next 2 photos were taken about 15 minutes earlier when the sky was very grey!

These next 2 photos were taken just when the hawthorns were coming into leaf earlier in the year……

I think Suzie believes she sounds beautiful!

Cecilia the Singing Siskin!

Some days Cecilia gets a faraway look in her eyes

She looks out over the countryside and sits on a branch and decides

What sort of song she should sing  today, quiet or sung with gusto

Perhaps a little melancholic or maybe just plain robusto!

She flies over to a hawthorn tree whose leaves are just coming out
She settles herself and stares for a bit before letting it all hang out!

Today there’s no holding back for this bird, she sings with all her heart
Who’d ever have known that this sweet siskin gal could get her beak this far apart!

Cecilia stops and ponders awhile of the beauty of where she is seated
She smiles to herself and takes a deep breath for this song must now be completed!

Oh has ever a bird sung so loud or with such enthusiasm
It’s sad she sounds like scraping rocks and my ears go into spasm!

Oh Cecilia I’m sorry, I think you’re beautiful

But when you open your beak to sing please lower the decibel!

You might think my comments are very rude and quite inexcusable

But when I have my camera you are so irresistible!

A Photo A Week: Brighten Up Your Day

On my walk today it was quite dull weatherwise! There were quite a few birds about, the usual, blue tits, goldfinches and the like. Then I saw this fellow! He’s a siskin….

Meet Sidney Siskin!

He’s from the finch family and I’ve never seen a more yellow one than Sidney…I thought from a distance he was an escaped canary!

Yes, this is Sidney’s face when he heard I thought he might be an escaped canary!

This is Celia Siskin and as you can see, she’s a slightly duller version of Sidney…Oh nature, you’re cruel!
