Costa Rica!!

We have just got back from Costa Rica, a holiday of different weathers, temperatures and birds!

Our first stop was Tortuguero, which is a National Park and the hotel we stayed at was only accessible by boat!

This little chap was everywhere-he’s a social flycatcher.
This is a Little Blue Heron sitting quietly waiting for some unsuspecting fish….

Whilst we were in Tortuguero it was very hot and fairly wet. The next picture is at about 5.45am and the weather is both sunny and rainy, though we had just had a downpour!

We were on an early morning boat safari……

This beauty is a Bare Throated Tiger Heron.
This one looks rather like a cormorant but is an Anhinga.

So that’s a just a few of the first birds we encountered in Costa Rica….more to come!

That’s All!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Eerie Part 3

So we left yesterday’s post with Harfül airborne fleeing from the caws and curses of Kragen Cormorant!

And Kragen needed to steady himself after that blinding light…..

"What the echinacea was that?" cawed Kragen feeling a little ruffled around the feather region!

Kragen stretched out his wings and as he did so a surge of power ran through him, as his wings unfolded he felt unbeatable and full of power!

Words welled up inside him and he wanted to speak. His cormorant comrades felt that quite frankly they had seen it all before!

Undeterred by their nonchalence Kragen puffed out his chest and spoke to the sea, the wind, the sky…….

He talked to the boats…..

He preached to the fishermen and their nets!

He spoke to the amazing Turkish workers who can pave a street/bridge/road in a few hours!

He looked out at the sparkly sea and…..

…and realised that life was too short and good to be so cross with Harfül….

…realised that life was too short and good to be so cross with Harfül….

He found himself a small and pointy post a little away from his original and favourite post…

and vowed to stop being so darned irksome with Harfül!

So the next day life went on as normal…..

Harfül is still practising standing on one leg and the comrade cormorants are still disinterested!

But didn’t you know that Cormorants are known as Black Death Killing Machines with tempers to match!!!! (According to the Guardian and Observer newspapers!)

Be afraid Harfül…be very afraid!!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Eerie Part 2

So yesterday we left poor old Kragen Cormorant with a contorted tail, flying off at pace leaving his cormorant comrades wondering what was going on!

I just managed to catch Kragen in a photo….

Well you try focusing on a moving object that far away and come up with something better!

Well you try focusing on a moving object that far away and come up with something better!

It was then that I realised that Kragen was angry-hence the contorted tail-and the source of his anger was his arch enemy Harfül Heron who had dared to perch on one leg on Kragen’s favourite post!

In flew Kragen from the right giving Harfül quite a shock!

"Crark crark crark!" crarked Harfül as he leapt off the post and launched himself into the sky!

Moments later Harfül was off with cormorant caws and curses ringing in his ears!

Leaving Kragen to regain his position on the top post!

Kragen began settling himself…...

Kragen began settling himself……

When suddenly there was a blinding flash of light…….

Ooooh-er!

Ooooh-er!

Is there a Part 3?

Is it looking any eerier?

Is there such a word as ‘eerier’?

Why, when I like detail in photos, am I posting so many ‘far away in the distance’ bird photos?

That’s All!
