Travel Theme: Fantastic

Ailsa has a travel blog and this week’s Travel theme is ‘Fantastic’.

I have made a fantastic discovery this week….a place where I can pop some bird food on a fence in a lovely wood and the birds will come and eat it whilst I take photos!

But I would like to introduce you to a very British little lady who, in my estimation, is definitely…

‘Fantastic’!

Roberta is very excited by the prospect of Spring…..the feeling of the sun on her feathers is swelling her heart and making her burst into song…...

Roberta is very excited by the prospect of Spring…..the feeling of the sun on her feathers is swelling her heart and making her burst into song……

"You may say'" she chirruped, "Spring has sprung, The grass is ris I wonder where the birdies is! Well let me tell you" she continued in a beautiful throaty warble…….

“You may say'” she chirruped, “Spring has sprung,
The grass is ris
I wonder where the birdies is!
Well let me tell you” she continued in a beautiful throaty warble…….

"I'm singing in the sun, Just singing in the sun, What a wonderful feeling My life is such fun!"

“I’m singing in the sun,
Just singing in the sun, What a wonderful feeling
My life is such great fun!”

She continued in this way for a good few minutes, then almost as quickly as she had started, she turned to me and….

"Oy you!" shouted Roberta, "Enough's enough….you had yer two penneth worth…now HOP IT!"

“Oy you!” shouted Roberta, “Enough’s enough….you had yer two penneth worth…now HOP IT!”

And with that she flounced off!

I still thought as he was fantastic though!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Minimalist 3

Red Red was in the garden…..

Red Red felt he needed to check out a few things….

Something felt odd so Red Red felt he needed to check out a few things….

He hopped onto the garden post and looked and looked…..surely this was the time of year when the garden took on a minimalist look-what with winter approaching and all!

He hopped onto the garden post and looked and looked…..surely this was the time of year when the garden took on a minimalist look-what with winter approaching and all!

"Hmmmm!" thought Red Red, "That's odd, I'd better takle a closer look!"

“Hmmmm!” thought Red Red, “That’s odd, I’d better take a closer look!”

So he did!

So he did!

And he looked again!

And he looked again!

Red Red got a little closer!

Red Red got a little closer!

What Red Red couldn’t understand was why on earth the garden was filled with nasturtiums, no…..filled with flowering nasturtiums in the middle of November!!

Red Red was most bemused!

"I am most bemused at this turn of events!" said Red Red!

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Found in Nature

Ah! What could be better for me?

I know I have featured robins recently, but they just have to be the friendliest and non-scared little birds we have in the UK.

I can’t venture too far at the moment (See my post “Ode to my Appendix” from 2 days ago to see why!), but just over the road I came across this little lady……

"Hold on a mo Madam Photographer, take your shot and then I'll spin round so you can get my other side view too!" said Renée Robin filling her red breast full of air so she could tootle and trill to her heart's content!

“Hold on a mo Madam Photographer, take your shot and then I’ll spin round so you can get my other side view too!” said Renée Robin filling her red breast full of air so she could tootle and trill to her heart’s content!

"And that'll do!" said Renée sharply as she decided enough was enough for one day!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Joy 2

Whilst walking along the canal and to the reservoir today we saw a lovely little robin who didn’t seem scared at all. I was really pleased that he posed so wonderfully for me!

"Oh go on then," said Ridgemont Robin, "I'll pose for you just this once as I am looking particularly gorgeous today!"

“Oh go on then,” said Ridgemont Robin, “If your weekly photo challenge is Joy who am I to stand in your way? I’ll pose for you just this once as I am looking particularly gorgeous today!”

And that’s just what Ridgemont Robin did!

Travel Theme: Light

Here’s my contribution to Ailsa’s Travel theme this week which is ‘Light’.

I took these from different angles with the light touching different parts of them. I have not done any photoshopping on these at all!

I was so pleased and, maybe sadly, rather excited with how the colour appeared to go orange and white in these next two!

What about the light on this little chap!

In the UK we used to have an advert for porridge that said that if you ate 'Ready Brek' porridge you would develop this warm aura glow around you which would keep you warm for the day...I wonder what this little robin had for his breakfast!!

A Day at the Gym!

There was some hustle and bustle and  a bit of a hullabaloo going on where I found myself today.

There seemed to be a competition between the coal tits and the blue tits!

Let’s have a look what’s going on……

Bigalloo Blue Tit arrived early at the Bird Gym and felt a rush of confidence coursing through his body as he anticipated the forthcoming Tit competition!

Bigaloo Blue Tit (Big for short) arrived early at the Bird Gym and felt a rush of confidence coursing through his body as he anticipated the forthcoming Tit Strength Competition!

A moment later…..

Colis Coal Tit joined Blue Tit and they stalwartly ignored each other for 2 minutes!

Cahoona Coal Tit joined Big Blue Tit and they stalwartly ignored each other for 2 minutes!

They were soon joined by other tits!

The teams seemed fairly even!

The teams seemed fairly even!

Big was the first to start and he went straight to the bars…

Big had to concentrate to control his nerves and nearly lost his grip....

Big had to concentrate to control his nerves and nearly lost his grip….

He then managed to right himself and the competition had begun!

He then managed to right himself and the competition had begun!

It didn’t take Cahoona long to begin the heckling!

"Call that a feat of strength? You're a little pussy cat!" sneered Cahoona in an ugly manner! "Shift over and let the real winner through!"

“Call that a feat of strength? You’re a little pussy cat!” sneered Cahoona in an ugly manner! “Shift over and let the real winner through!”

At that moment, Big got distracted….

"What's that?" said Big, "There's fresh seed been put out? I'm on my way!"

“What’s that?” said Big, “There’s fresh seed been put out? I’m on my way!”

Big came up for some light refreshment.

Big enjoyed the light refreshments.

Of course, Cahoona took advantage of this and took his place immediately!

"On course to win!" said Cahoona through gritted beak and already on his 45th pull up!

“On course to win!” said Cahoona through gritted beak and already on his 45th pull up!

Rita Robin heard the noise and came to take a look….

Rita Robin could barely believe her eyes at the lengths these tits would go to!

Rita Robin could barely believe her eyes at the energy that the tits expended in competing with each other, especially considering the hard winter they were encountering!

And with a flounce and a chirrup……

"Thank goodness that we Robins aren't competitive. They are a silly bunch of tits!" said Rita before flying off!

“Thank goodness that we Robins aren’t competitive. What a silly bunch of tits!” said Rita!

Off she flew!

But Whose Feet are These Feet?

There I was, by the canal again, walking and walking with camera at the ready, when who should I encounter?

I wonder if anyone would recognise him just by his feet!

Them's big feet them is!

Them’s big feet them is! But is the beak a give away?

For those of you who read my blog on 24th Jan “A little birdie told me”, you will know that Mr. Round Robin featured in this post and that he was obviously named ‘Round’ due to his stature! Well, I wonder what we should call the owner of these feet as he seems to have the same propensity towards the spherical!

"Hey you...camera woman, I tink it's a little unfair of you to come a creepin' up on me like that and then suggesting I am on the spherical side of life!" cawked (yes I do mean cawked-it's my word and I like it!) Monroe Moorhen tetchily!

“Hey you…camera woman, I think it’s a little unfair of you to come a creepin’ up on me like that and then suggesting I am on the spherical side of life!” cawked (yes I do mean cawked-it’s my word and I like it!) Monroe Moorhen tetchily!

And with that, Monroe stormed off!

"That'll teach her to malign me....now on with the search for those lovely round Kendal mint cakes!" said Monroe.

“That’ll teach her to malign me….now on with the search for those lovely round Kendal mint cakes!” said Monroe.

I wasn’t sure whether or not to help Monroe as he seemed to not see the mint cake so close to his beak!

"It must be round here somewhere!" said Monroe in a rather irritated way!

“It must be round here somewhere!” said Monroe in a rather irritated way! “I knew I should have brought my glasses!”

He looked and looked….

"Maybe it's under this leaf?" said Monroe in a hopeful sort of way!

“Maybe it’s under this leaf?” said Monroe in a hopeful sort of way!

In the end he shouted to his partner Marilyn who didn’t know and didn’t care about the location of the mint cake!

"Marilyn, Marilyn, where did you say you saw it?" shouted Monroe.

“Marilyn, Marilyn, where did you say you saw it?” shouted Monroe.

It was no good, no matter how hard Monroe looked he just could not find the mint cake and decided that he and Marilyn would have to put up with grass for their tea instead that evening!

"Um yum!" said Monroe in a completely nonplussed way!

“Um yum!” said Monroe in a completely nonplussed way!

That’s all!
