Weekly Photo Challenge: Forces of Nature

This week’s Photo Challenge is Forces of Nature and, in the same vein as my last post on this, I present a very strong force of nature for you!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Blur 2

The challenge this week is ‘Blur’ and this photo is one I would not normally use as it’s not as clear and sharp as I like my photos to be. I didn’t, however, want to get rid of it as there was something I rather liked about it!

What do you think?

IMG_9398

And this second one I also kept because of the comical look on Mr. Pigeon’s beak albeit it blurred as well!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Minimalist 2

Percy and Pedro met every morning to do their exercises…..

Good old plain wing flapping got their heart rates going and started their sessions…..

Then came the kung fu session…..

Then they would practise landing like a griffin!

Then they would practise landing like a griffin!

But Percy was always searching for something….he was fed up with the chaos of modern pigeon living and wanted to de-clutter! Which even began to extend into his daily training sessions!

One day he noticed that if he concentrated very hard he could even minimalise the amount of wings he used!!!

"Look Pedro, I can use just one wing if I want to!" announced Percy triumphantly!

And from that day to this, Percy can be seen practising on my fence the minimalist one armed exercise regime!

Cappadocia and the Pigeons

So, there we were in Göreme in the heart of Cappadocia, Turkey! Most of the hotels are ‘cave’ hotels due to the nature of where they are…..sort of in caves! Here’s a picture of what we could see from our cave hotel….

IMG_7515.JPG
In this picture you should be able to see little squares dug into the walls. These are pigeon roosts! Apparently you were no one in Göreme if you didn’t have pigeons…a lot of pigeons which in Turn would produce a lot of poo(!) for your crops! You would need it as a lure to any woman you were interested in as a marriage prospect!! If you couldn’t demonstrate much pigeon poo then you were no one and unmarried!
This lead to the creation of Pigeon Valley…..I kid you not!! Look….

This is Cappa Camel who willingly takes visitors right down into the valley!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Spring 3

So, Spring is here and these two male pigeons (Percutio  and Pomeo) have obviously felt the sap rising!

They have been fighting and fighting over a certain female pigeon (Paloma)!

Here’s them in a slight stand off pose…..

Percutio Pigeon and Pomeo Pigeon eye each other suspiciously and check each other out to see who's biggest!

But with the cunning of those who practise Tai Chi……

….Percutio leaps with the speed and stealth of a tiger shouting "Coooooo-ya!" at the top of his beak!

Deftly, Pomeo moves backwards whilst Percutio tries a sideswipe!

Pomeo propels himself upwards in a counter attack…

Screeching in a viciously coo-ey sort of way that's scary only to pigeons Pomeo shouts, "She's mine and whilst I have beats in my wings and coos in my heart you will never have Paloma Pigeon as your gal!"

Pomeo remembers the Griffin pose, taught by the ancient pigeons of London and begins his counter attack for real!!

Quite a scary Griffin pose eh?

Pomeo is back in control and Percutio knows he’s in trouble…..

Pomeo now takes on the"come a step nearer and I'll clock you one round the side of your feathered head mate" stance!

They then both swoop off and land on the shed roof where it continues with Pomeo holding his ground with the

That’s a Little Bit Fishy!!

In Fethiye (Turkey), where I have just come back from a holiday, there is a restaurant called ‘The Duck Pond’.

One thing you should know is that there is a reason for its name…..

However, I took no photos of ducks whatsoever!

Instead….some pigeons in various grooming states…..

Pamuk knew that he had very little time to finish his grooming..after all it was very close to his time to doze!

"Remember the hook and don't catch your head on it….remember the hook and don't catch your head on it!" chanted Pamuk, over and over again for he was a bird of small intelligence!

….and some rather colourful and gorgeous (I know it’s just my opinion!) photos of the fish in the duck pond!!

So That’s What the Pigeons did!!! Part 4 ;)

This evening my ‘pet pigeons’ were canoodling once more on my fence, so in this set of photos they are no longer looking the other way….these, my lovelies, are full frontal pigeon shots!

Peony Pigeon and Picardy Pigeon had been flying from aerial to roof top to tree and back again for about 20 minutes, so when they finally settled on the fence, I had to move at break neck speed to the back door in order to get these photos!

"Shall we?" said Peony.

“Shall we?” said Peony.

"My pleasure!" said Picardy.

“My pleasure!” said Picardy.

Let the aerobatics commence!

How fluffy are you Picardy Pigeon!

"Elbows up Peony!" shouted Picardy all of a dither!

"Ta da!" cooed Picardy triumphantly!

What the Pigeons Did Next- Part 3!

So….we have had the Preening……we have had the Smooching…

What’s next?

Well I can tell you next it’s the Shimmying up and the Balancing!!

"That's right Peony, down a bit...that's right!" said Picardy, knowing that he didn't want to have to jump too much feeling as he did!

“That’s right Peony, down a bit…Ah yes!” said Picardy, knowing that he didn’t want to have to jump too much feeling as he did!

"How's that for height now?" questioned Peony a little testily, after all, this had been quite a long flirtation for her!

"Yes...yes..that looks good...brace yourself Peony!" said Picardy excitedly!

And brace herself she did!

"That's good Peony," panted Picardy, "Hold steady now!"

"I said HOLD STEADY PEONY!" shouted Picardy somewhat alarmed a the angle at which Peony was lilting!

Oh no!

This is not good for Picardy's concentration or his reputation!

What the Pigeons Did Next-Part 2!

This is a follow on blog from yesterday where I showed Peony Pigeon and Picardy Pigeon meeting on my back fence!

I am about to reveal photos of the sex life of pigeons (who’d have thought I’d ever type that sentence!), and I have seen things that I did NOT know pigeons did!!!

LOOK!!!

Peony (the one on the left) looks adoringly at Picardy whilst whispering pigeon sweet nothings in his ear!

Peony seems to be taking the lead whilst Picardy looks perhaps a little startled!
