Macro Monday

Being here in Turkey on holiday, I nearly forgot about Macro Monday! Quelle horreur!! However I do, of course, have a few shots à la macro……

These are some rather gorgeous spiky plants at Patara archaeological site…

And a macro mystery. These little buzzy beasties were flying around joined together in a push me pull you sort of way. I watched for a while, then they landed and I swooped in, camera at the ready. I have no idea what they are (though I do know what they were doing!).

Just before a visit to a thermal springs cave deep underground, my trusty camera and I saw this little chap……
“Ah Inglezi woman” he cricketed, “it will be hard to get rid of the smell of sulphur if you go down that gorge underground!”
And he was right about the thermal sulphur stinking crack in the ground hot water spring….2 days later and still with an aroma of sulphur hanging about!

This one looks like it has been in the wind!

The next photos are of the anemone fully submerged in a rock pool and sort of floating free!

Patara, Fethiye and the Habits of Snails!

When walking round the archaeological site at Patara, we noticed something in the trees and foliage around us…..

Hundreds of snails!

Hundreds of snails!

My favourite!

My favourite!

My favourite!

We all pondered a while….was it because the ground was too hot for the snail’s only foot? The sand at Patara beach was certainly too hot for our feet! Anyway, here’s some more photos…..

They were even on branches lying just above the ground!

They were everywhere!

They were everywhere!

And so densely packed together!

These next two photos are in Fethiye on a small bird sanctuary by the sea….

Only Two Inches Long but What a Noise!

Patara Pete the feisty Frog, (as featured below) has a very loud mating call….I mean VERY loud!

"I'm thinking my sexy croaky call coupled with my two flower buttonhole will stand me in good stead with 'The Ladies!" said Patara Pete with confidence!

The frogs by my villa are loud yet invisible so when we went Patara (place of beautiful beaches here in Turkey) and there was an abundance of them, I decided to get some shots! Here’s a photo of Patara first…

The sea really is that colour!

But back to Patara Pete and friends….

Fedora Frog noted the success Patara Pete had with 'The Ladies' and decided to choose a flower for his buttonhole!

A little while later….

Let's just say Patara Pete needed to cool down a bit shall we?

To finish, some other varieties of flower that bring Patara Pete luck!….

Pretty aren't they?
