It’s not often that dragonflies stay still enough for the number of photos I got of this one today. But this one seemed to be enjoying the sun and had decided the background showed off his colouring to a tee!
In June this year, along the banks of a little stream near where I live, there appeared loads of brightly coloured moths that flew past at speed in a flash of red. When resting, these moths do not appear very brightly coloured……
However, the underneath of their wings tells a different story……..
There were also lots of them coming out of their chrysalis’ looking rather crumpled………
You can really how they are such streaks of bright red flashing past when you see this photo!
I usually like plants that are bright and vivid but for some reason the Astrantia has always been a flower that I absolutely love-it’s so delicate and fine and just gorgeous, and I am pleased to say I have them in my garden!
If you wanted a proper description….here it is!
“Astrantia are clump-forming herbaceous perennials with palmately lobed basal leaves and branched, erect, wiry stems bearing compact umbels of tiny flowers surrounded by a rosette of showy bracts.”
