Weekly Photo Challenge: Happy Place

I have a place I love to go….but even more so lately because there is a huge flock of mandarin ducks. It also has beautiful colours at this time of year…

I would describe it as a Happy Place!

This is a sort of a boat house

Just Beautiful

Anyone who has seen my blog before will know that I am rather partial to ducks and that my favourite duck is the Mandarin duck!

Here’s a link to a previous post which has a picture of a mandarin duck should you want to know what one looks like!

But following are photos of the place where I found a flock of those aforementioned ducks-I was delirious with the discovery! No mandarins in these photos, just rather lovely reflections (in my opinion!).

Weekly Photo Challenge: Unexpected 2

When Maylene Mandarin left home that morning……

She thought that she had left her husband Marbella Mandarin chatting and preening with his friends!

She thought that she had left her husband Mandeen Mandarin chatting and preening with his friends!

Vanity ran thickly through the blood of the Mandarin Duck species!

Vanity ran thickly through the blood of the Mandarin Duck species!

The last and most unexpected thing she thought would happen would be…..

Mandeen quacking his sad and and flapping about in a most odd fashion!

Mandeen quacking his head off and flapping about in a most odd fashion!

She felt a little embarrassed and swam off to the middle of the lake with Mandeen in hot pursuit…..

"Maylene, Maylene!" called Mandeen, "Come back I have a gift for you…...

“Maylene, Maylene!” called Mandeen, “Come back I have a gift for you……”

Indeed it was an unexpected gift of an oil painting, that he had done that very afternoon, of his lady love!

(No wonder he had to stretch his wings with all that painting!)

Ahhh!

Ahhh!

That’s All!

Just the One Leg Mr. Mandarin Duck?

When walking in one of my favourite places where I know that Mr. Miyagi Mandarin lives, I found lots of wonderful things to photograph. Yesterday’s post with the ducklings were some of those wonderful things. As I have approximately loads and loads of photos of this lovely mandarin duck I thought I wouldn’t take anymore…but when I saw him a standing there, all saucy on one leg!!!!-what else could I do but take photos!

"How many legs does a mandarin have When he's standing alone by the water? Answer me now, what do you think Cos you don't know you really ought!" sang Miyagi in a willowy voice!

“How many legs does a mandarin have
When he’s standing alone by the water?
Answer me now, what do you think
Cos if you don’t know now you really oughta!” sang Miyagi in a willowy voice!

I needed to get closer to find the answer.....

I needed to get closer to find the answer…..

He even turned to the side and fanned out his tail....all still on one leg!

I think I’m in Love!

I am totally mesmerised and captivated by this duck and whilst I have produced a post about him previously, that was before my lovely new camera!

"Oh!" said Mr. Miyagi, "I see she's back again but with a better camera and joy in her heat at seeing me!"

“Oh!” said Mr. Miyagi, “I see she’s back again but with a better camera and joy in her heart at seeing me!”

He’s not wrong you know!

Dutifully showing how his feathers fall so beautifully in this position!

I love the pattern of the blue on his feathers.

But who’s this slightly sleazy and perhaps jealous looking chap up in the trees?

"Huh," sneered Percy, "She keeps saying she's going to do a pigeon study and feature us on her so called blog....but NO!... Mr. Bright Coloured Mandarin Face always gets the first look in! Well I'm sick of it and let my 'sick of it' face be a warning!"(To who I wonder?)

(To who I wonder?)

But back to Mr. Miyagi Mandarin….

A close up of the beautiful colours on his head!

But my favourite has to be….

Ain't he gorgeous!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Unique

The photo shows this Mandarin Duck (who I have named Miyagi) is unique and I know there is only one of him in the beautiful wild life park that he lives in. I have never seen a female mandarin there!
