What’s Underneath…..

On a walk around a local park I came across many different fungi and quite a lot of them had been kicked/knocked over, most likely by children….no judgement…..I used to do it myself when I was a child! But what was revealed underneath was rather lovely….

Amethyst Deceiver

Earlier this week I took my grandsons to Cooper’s Hill in Ampthill, Bedfordshire. Whilst they were climbing trees and having fun I was spotting fungi. And then I found some purple fungi…..I’ve never seen purple fungi before so I was very excited and out came the trusty camera. Research led me to finding out that they are called Amethyst Deceivers and are edible (though I’m not going to be frying them up for dinner!).

I used the flash on this one hence the brightness.
I think this one is a young ‘un with its little frilly edges!

This is probably going to be the first of a few fungal blogs as there were so many different ones at Cooper’s Hill!

That’s All!

Travel Theme: Green

Well what a great colour…one of my favourites! And it just so happens that Ailsa has chosen this colour for her Travel Theme this week. Check it out at via the following link….

http://wheresmybackpack.com/2013/03/15/travel-theme-green/

I thought I’d start off with a very soft effect on this first photo…

"Hey!" whispered the moss, "It's Friday night and she's just had a large G and T....my guess is this post won't make much sense! But stick with it, there may be some not bad photos!"

This time ‘Soft Effect with Fungus!’

If I were a fungus, I might very well want to set my roots down in this place!

The next two photos are, I think, of the same sort of species, but one I found lying down and the other seemed to want to stand to attention!

Shoulders back!

Shoulders back!

Then the following one has been adorned with and joined by various fungi!

The large fungus is called "jelly fungus"...Can't think why!

The large fungus is called “jelly fungus”…Can’t think why!

And now…thankfully….I believe my dinner is ready-which is good as I need something to soften down the the effect of the G and T!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Lost in the Details 3

Anywhere I looked in this photo seemed fascinating with such lovely colours….

I haven’t photoshopped this in any way except to crop it a little…The colours are as they were in the woods!

This fungus was just a little further down the same tree.

Is There Mushroom For Me?

Nothing like a corny title to introduce fungi!

Interestingly (well I think so!) I bought these mushrooms at a seventh of their original price…I love a bargain. So creamy and soft looking-just what I needed after a day like today!

And another one….

I shall call this one 'Blinded by the light'!

I shall call this one ‘Blinded by the light’!

How can I resist an ‘up and under’ photo?

Cheeky!

Cheeky!

Just a couple more….

"Who has wrenched us with unfortunate hand?" exclaimed the exotic mushrooms..."Whither are we off to?"

Sadly, mushroom buddies, your destiny is my stomach!

"We will take our fate head on!" said the brave little mushrooms!

Yum yum!

To anyone who knows me personally and knows I went over to the dark side today (also known as a classroom) this is how I prepared myself…..

In a night of prayer at the altar!

Whilst girding my loins as follows!

All went well!

That’s a Funny Name for a Chaffinch!

Today I’ve had one of those busy doing a lot sort of days but when you get to the end of it you wonder what you have done!

It snowed for most of the day and so it was hard to keep my lens dry and achieve good photos!

Anyway I thought I introduce Chertsey Chaffinch who I first met last week…

"Why is she calling me Chertsey...what a ridiculous name!" snapped Dave Chaffinch!

“Why is she calling me Chertsey…what a ridiculous name!” snapped Dave Chaffinch!

Then a little further along I saw some sheep on the other side of a stream….the one with the black face stared at me and then stamped her foot!! She seemed quite cross! Then she just appeared to decide to ignore my existence!

"I'd give her what for if she dared to come into this field!" Ewegenie siad bravely, all the while knowing that the woman with the camera would not cross the water anyway!

I rather liked this fungi growing on a tree….

Fergie Fungus tried hard to smile...he just needed a few more weeks!

Up and under!

"Oooh! Cheeky!" said Fergie when he realised where that woman had put her camera!

Snowdrops, Fungi and is that Homer Simpson??

Surely it’s too early for spring and snowdrops?

But after some googly research I have discovered that snowdrops arrive between January and April!

Well I never….they have a hardened leaf tip that can push through frozen soil!

Amazingly I have a photo of those very hard bits on the leaves!!

"Thank goodness we've had a bit of a thaw!" said Smiley Snowdrop, "Saves on the extra effort we usually have to put in!"

It's worth all the effort! Ah!

It’s worth all the effort! Ah!

These next two photos are some rather interesting fungi and moss on a fallen down tree. I love the shade of brown against the green….

Then there’s these two…..

But finally….Do you see the likeness?
