At this time of year…it’s those butterflies I can’t get enough of!

The small (and slightly upside down) tortoiseshell butterfly who can be found in the fields behind my house at this time of year.

The Marble White butterfly who loves the knapweed.

The Small Skipper with his beautiful vibrant orange and brown colouring.

Travel Theme: Off Centre

The Travel Theme is from Ailsa over at Where’s My Backpack.

Bertie Bee was almost drunk with excitement at the ripe and ready poppies, in fact he had to lie down to fully take advantage of the glories he found within!

“Yumzzzzzzz!” said Bertie in a state of delirium!

And as always with me…a little closer!

I don’t think I have ever seen a bee more covered in pollen!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Off Season

Now I have spent some time reading about the chaps who feature in today’s blog and quite frankly, it’s a bit of a muddle for me! However, if what I have read is right, then this first chap is definitely ‘Off Season’!

This is the caterpillar of the Six Spot Burnet Moth….we shall call him “Sixy”. (Well why not?)

Now if I have read correctly, he shouldn’t be around for another month or so!

His parents, on the other hand, are out and about and getting a little amorous!

Oooh the things you see in the field!

Here’s the adult Six Spot Burnet Moth behaving in a more decorous manner!

So maybe we should say ‘Pre-season’ rather than ‘Off-season’….

I think that might be ok!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Off Season

So what does Off Season mean?

Well….A period of time marked by a cessation or lessening of normal activity!

It’s not just human activity either!

Wesley didn’t want to perform at the bird show at the zoo!

I’m Wesley the small Western Screech Owl,
I’m not very pleased to be here
For I’m normally awake in the evening and night
I want to just disappear!

 

I’m feeling a little bit arsey
Cos I’m tired and I will not perform
Jumping from here to there is no fun
And the reception I get is lukewarm!

I’ve closed my eyes and held my temper
I don’t like feeling this cross
You mark my words at the end of this show
I’ll have shown them just who is the boss!

I’ll shrug my wings and look away
My trainer will tempt me with meat
But my resolve is very strong
My trainer will soon feel the heat!

 

So now I’ll just look disinterested
I’m not performing off season
I’ll look to the right for an hour and a half
I certainly don’t need a reason

Ewe’ll never guess what’s happened here!

Shirley Sheep lay down, hoping beyond hope that what she thought had happened to her wonderful woolly coat was just a figment of her imagination!

Sheila Sheep stared aimlessly into the distance thinking of days gone by when she could hold her head up high, safe in the knowledge that she looked like the rest of the herd! How she regretted that last visit to the salon!

Siobhan Sheep rather liked her new look as she munched happily on some rather glorious green Irish grass!

I think this qualifies as vivid!
