For Outlier Babe…..a closer up of a lamb….
I looked up ‘macro’ and it said “the lens has a macro setting for shooting big close-ups”! A statement which I rather liked!
I already knew what ‘Monday’ meant!
So today’s big close up…..
I present the 2nd smallest bird in the UK….
I see wrens quite a lot but they are too fast to photograph. Today, however, I caught one on camera by displaying some stealth and cunning! Once I had located Wrenata Wren, I took out my trusty iPhone, found my ‘birds of Britain’ app and played the song of the wren from it. Lo and behold…..Wrenata popped out onto the branch to take a long look at me…then she flew off but repeated the popping out several times!
I am very excited to actually catch a wren on camera mmmmmmm 🙂

‘Tis the time for friskiness on the canal with a lot of ablutions going on!
Thus, I have my photos for the topic of ‘Motion’….
But she’s not finished yet!
And here she is with just the blow dry to organise and then she’s ready!

I think I should re-name this post “Early Birderfly!”
Thanks to The Daily Post for this challenge.

The Challenge-Early Bird!
First thing this morning the bees were very busy…..
Mr. Bee here is collecting something from the bud of a horse chestnut that is just bursting into leaf!
This little chap was so excited with these Forget Me Nots that he was zooming from one to another. I could barely keep up with him!

So, over at The Daily Post the challenge is ‘Early Bird’.
Well whilst on a narrowboat at Easter I got up early to walk Rocky the dog and saw this beautiful Buzzard most definitely looking out for his breakfast!
Bernie Buzzard was hungry
He’d not eaten since yesterday’s tea
‘Twas early and he had decided
To see what he could from a tree!
He barely moved a muscle
Just his head turned a tiny bit
But then he noticed me and my dog
And from that very tree he did flit!
Sadly he went into the field a way off and I thought that was my only sighting of him for the day.
However….
Oh imagine my joy
Imagine my smile
On coming back to the boat
For up over there
Bernie’d come back
A chuckle grew up in my throat!
Out with the camera
On with the stealth
Tiptoe to up over there
Don’t hold your breath
It’ll give you the shakes
Now capture his beauty so rare….
He looked to the right
He looked to the left
I wondered what he could see!
And then with a jolt
When I checked once again…..
So Early Bird is this week’s photo challenge. I permitted myself a smile when I thought of my holiday a week ago on a narrowboat. Oh…..the early mornings and oh…the birds! Perfect combination for this challenge…..
So without further blather….
There I was doing a bit of stretching in the early morning when I heard a tapping….and that’s when I saw Graham the Great Spotted Woodpecker!
And here he is thoroughly checking it out!
Just to let you know how excited I was to catch this beautiful bird, it’s only the second or third time I have seen one…just so pleased!
Also, on the previous day, this next photo was the best shot I had managed to get of another Great Spotted Woodpecker! Look….

So following on from Cecilia
Some other birds heard what I’d said
About how her voice kind of grated
And left me holding my head.
So a few of them got together
To show how birdsong should be
So here’s some more little birdies
Singing their heart out for me!
Meet Bailey the beautiful Blackcap
Sitting sunning himself on a twig
He seemed to look to the distance
Like he couldn’t really give a fig!
But then he noticed Rocky
Who was really quite inattentive
He shouted “Oy dog find your bone!”
Which I thought was fairly inventive!
So then Bailey started to sing
What a joy-it made my heart feel afloat
I know it’s a tentative link
But just listen to his lovely notes
“That’s yer lot!” said Bailey
And Rocky’s coming now
So go and find Mr. Robin
He’s just over there on a bough!
Introducing Rocky!
“What have I missed?” barked Rocky
“I couldn’t find a bone,
I looked and looked and looked and looked
It’s location to me is unknown!”
But now back to the gorgeous Sir Robin
Sitting aloft in the tree
Feeling so glad of this weather
And waiting patiently for me!
Listen to my wonderful song
All warble and tootle and tweet
That’s All!
