Weekly Photo Challenge: Yellow 2

‘Tis very nearly Christmas and I’m drinking whisky and coke

There’s nothing on the tv and I’m sad I don’t still smoke!

So I’m looking through my photos and my head’s beginning to mellow

Come on then woman, hurry now you’ve loads of pictures of yellow!

Number six the last flower pic

It’s a flower I found on a tree

I really don’t know what it is

Can you enlighten me?

Dedicated to Ducks!

Ducks….I love ’em…just the common or garden ducky wucky woos!

A bit o’ sun, a bit o’ water and ducks is all I need! (Well sometimes!)

IMG_9459 IMG_9430 IMG_9434

But….not only do they have the most exquisite coloured heads and expressions…..I just love their curly tail feathers!

Look!

Eclectic Corner #2 Decadence

I’ve been invited by Justine at Eclectic odds n sods to join her Eclectic Corner Challenge today.

I have to marry together the word ‘Decadence’ with the following quote!

“The exotic and the erotic ideals go hand in hand, and this fact also contributes another proof of a more or less obvious truth – that is, that a love of the exotic is usually an imaginative projection of a sexual desire.”
― Mario Praz, The Romantic Agony

Here goes….

Ahem…….

I had never seen one of these before,

Let alone two joined like this……

IMG_2522

So I took a closer look I did

Good grief that’s some proboscis!!

IMG_2523
I did some research and found out their name

A bee fly I’m led to believe

Their names were Bert and Belinda

And I think they’re trying to conceive!

You may not think this exotic

Nor do I-I’ll tell you straight!

But then we all got to chatting

They are decadent make no mistake.

The definition of exotic

Listen well and give me your ear….

Is “Originating in or characteristic of

Some other place than here!”

These chaps were seen in Turkey

A long long way from home

That’s exotic enough for me

Now to get on with the ‘pome’

So what about erotic

You’ll want to hear about that

Well let me tell you about these two

Listen well and hold onto your hats!

For when the sun begins to set

They get in a frenzied state

Everything’s so exciting

That they can hardly wait…..

For Bert and Belinda have a secret

Their love nest’s no flowering shrub

You see these two belong to……….

Weekly Photo Challenge: (Not Quite) Gone, And Not Forgotten

So I’ve tinkered with the challenge’s title to suit myself!

A while ago I posted on Macro Monday about a strange yet sturdy flower that had appeared in my garden from nowhere!

I had some helpful suggestions as to what it was and I think it is an Echinacea Purpurea as mentioned by Mr. Bennett and Jen!

Here is her (Edith Echinacea’s) progress….

Here she is looking quite dewy and sparkly!

And her she is after a heavy frost…..

IMG_9285

Poor Edith drooped somewhat what with the cold and all!

And here she is a little later the same morning….

Weekly Photo Challenge: Gone, But Not Forgotten 2

It was quite a bright but cold day today which always pleases me in terms of photography!

Now all the trees are bare, there is not much in the way of hiding places for the birds……excellent!

Cheryl Chaffinch fluffed up her feathers against the wind and said, "Oooh I remember when all the leaves were on the trees and I could hide from camera women like 'er down there!…….."

Cheryl Chaffinch fluffed up her feathers against the wind and said, “Oooh I remember when all the leaves were on the trees and I could hide from camera women like ‘er down there!……..”

"……mmmm those leaves….'gone but not forgotten I'd say!"

“……mmmm those leaves….’gone but not forgotten’ I’d say!”

Then there’s Stevie Starling feeling all exposed in the tree…..

"Whilst I like the way the winter sun catches the fabulous colours in my feathers, it ain't half cold without those dear 'gone but not forgotten' leaves! postured Stevie!

“Whilst I like the way the winter sun catches the fabulous colours in my feathers, it ain’t half cold without those dear ‘gone but not forgotten’ leaves!” postured Stevie!

And as for McFarlane Pheasant (not the brightest of birds I fear!)….

"I'm sure there was wheat in this field the last time I came here….where can it be?" Mcfarlane Pheasant clucked in the field where once indeed, there was wheat…long gone but not forgotten by him!

“I’m sure there was wheat in this field the last time I came here….where can it be?” Mcfarlane Pheasant clucked in the field where once indeed there was wheat…long ‘gone but not forgotten’ by him!

And I just wanted to pop this slightly odd photo in…..I was trying to take a sort of silhouette of a skylark in a wild rose tree against a rather dramatic backdrop (well done sun!), when he decided to fly off at the exact moment I pressed the shutter…..what do you think?

Weekly Photo Challenge: Gone, But Not Forgotten

This week’s theme is “Gone, But Not Forgotten”.

In the summer, my nasturtiums were beautiful and prolific……

IMG_6623

In fact they just kept going and going. Then in September they died off but as the weather was so warm the seeds that they had dropped grew!!

These next two shots were on the 11th November….

IMG_9031 IMG_9033

And from then until now we have had nasturtiums galore….flowering too!

Until last night and the first really heavy frost of the year….oh dear….

So dear nasturtiums…..Gone, but not forgotten!

Swan-upmanship!

Oh they can be vain those swans….and competitive!

Look!

Sven Swan was a little bored and decided to begin to show off…..

Sven Swan was a little bored and decided to begin to show off…..

"One leg and scratching my cheek with the other leg! Not bad!" he said to himself in a congratulatory manner!

“Standing on one leg and scratching my cheek with the other leg! Not bad!” he said to himself in a congratulatory manner!

OOoooooooer…nearly lost you balance Sven Swan!

Ooooooooer…nearly lost your balance Sven Swan!

Well on the other side of the lake, Steve Swan had to take join in and perhaps be just a little bit better and more clever than Sven! He participated in a little posing and posturing himself….

Steve on the other side of the lake wanted to show his skills whilst on the water….and jauntily raised his leg and tucked his beak into his feathers!

He jauntily raised his leg and tucked his beak into his feathers!

Simon Swan of Marlow thought they were all very silly and didn't want to join in at all!

Simon Swan of Marlow thought they were all very silly and didn’t want to join in at all! He gave a disparaging look and…..

….led his family away from all the frivolity!

But Swinton Swan took the challenge of being the cleverest and most beautiful swan to the nth degree and showed them all what being a swan was all about….
