Weekly Photo Challenge: Endurance

Whilst on holiday in Turkey, we went to Cappadocia where there are the most amazing rock formations that people have adapted in the past for homes and other purposes. It would seem that monks particularly liked carving monasteries into the rock. But we went to a place called Selime where there was a Cathedral that had been carved into the rock….well a long time ago!

I’d have to tell you that I visited a lot of these ‘carved into the rock’ type places which were interesting….but Selime Cathedral was AMAZING and I don’t think my photos do justice to how incredible it was!

This last photo is not brilliant but it does show the size of the rooms that the monks carved. The roof was about 30 feet high and the first room led into another that was just as big!

  1. And I believe it might even be the location of the end of “L’empire des Loups”, one of my favourite French action adventure movies starring my erstwhile hero, Jean Reno. Of course, all these places may look the same; but it do look awful like it. Marvellous post, Lizzie darlin.
