“Don’t be ridiculous, ” said Eugenie amazed at her partner’s stupidity!

"Ooooh look!" said Eugene, "I can make scary ghosts with my shadow!" Eugene just had to look away!

I found these in Turkey and they are from the Family-True Shieldbugs (Pentatomidae) with the other name of Eurydema Ornata!!

A Lady Dragonfly

Whilst in Turkey (boo hoo am home!) I took a lot of photos of the dragonflies around the villa but they were all male. The females just came out fleetingly, so you can imagine how pleased I was when I finally found a lady dragonfly perched upon a hibiscus!

As usual, the female is a little less brightly coloured than the male though no less beautiful! Meet Delphine Dragonfly!

And here's Delphine contemplating a visit to the pond to see the chaps!!

The male dragonflies were really very friendly around the pool and if you put your finger in the air they would come and sit on it!!!

Just have a look at these, taking with one finger in the air and the other holding the camera!!

Cappadocia and the Pigeons

So, there we were in Göreme in the heart of Cappadocia, Turkey! Most of the hotels are ‘cave’ hotels due to the nature of where they are…..sort of in caves! Here’s a picture of what we could see from our cave hotel….

In this picture you should be able to see little squares dug into the walls. These are pigeon roosts! Apparently you were no one in Göreme if you didn’t have pigeons…a lot of pigeons which in Turn would produce a lot of poo(!) for your crops! You would need it as a lure to any woman you were interested in as a marriage prospect!! If you couldn’t demonstrate much pigeon poo then you were no one and unmarried!
This lead to the creation of Pigeon Valley…..I kid you not!! Look….

This is Cappa Camel who willingly takes visitors right down into the valley!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Silhouette

We are in a village called Göreme in Cappadocia where it is ‘de rigeur’ to have a balloon ride. This we did this morning but yesterday morning I awoke early to a whooshing sort of sound. I went out side and was greeted by so many balloons I could barely believe my eyes. However I shall show you just one of these that fits the title of ‘silhouette’…..

My final offering under this title is the Turkish flag which is flying everywhere and a really striking and beautiful flag set against the constant blue skies.
