Weekly Photo Challenge: Focus 3

DO NOT FOCUS ON THE FLY!
FOCUS ON THE COLOURS AND THE SHINE,

(and maybe even consider Mr. F. Fly  a little beautiful?).

Frederick Fly was hungry and yet he felt sick as he always did when he was hungry!

Frederick Fly was hungry and yet he felt sick as he always did when he was hungry!

Here's Freda Fly, who is also hungry! "Wonder where those aphids are!" she wondered idly.

Here’s Freda Fly who is also hungry!
“Wonder where those aphids are!” she wondered idly whilst her tummy rumbled and gurgled ominously!

Freda Fly sought out her friend Frederick, thinking that he might know where the aphid lunch herd where that day!

Freda and Frederick were no help to each other at all as they had no idea where those darned greenfly were!

Freda and Frederick were no help to each other at all as they had no idea where those darned greenfly were!

If only Frederick had looked a little closer!

He fummed inwardly as he thought of those ladybirds who had probably eaten the bloomin' lot!

Oh Frederick-you silly fly!

The aphids laughed as they made their get away!

"Hmpff!" snorted Frederick as he flew off, "Wonder if they're under this leaf?"

“Hmpff!” snorted Frederick as he flew off, “Wonder if they’re under this leaf?”

Too late Frederick, too late!

Hope you saw their beauty and didn’t think of what flies actually do!!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Focus 2

I found two Cabbage White Butterflies focusing very very hard on my shrub that I call “Bubble”!

Look…..

Mr and Mrs Cabbage-White seem to be ignoring each other??!!

Mr and Mrs Cabbage-White seem to be ignoring each other??!!

Or are they? Perhaps I’ll take a closer look!

Or maybe not!!

Or maybe not!!

Better look from a different angle or two!

Intense......

Intense……

...very intense!

…very intense!

In fact, they flew off still attached to each other-saucy things!

So, the plant I call “Bubble”.

Anyone know what it is? I can’t remember and I can’t seem to find it on the net!

A close up....

...and its full size (about 5 feet tall)

It goes away completely in the winter, and returns in the summer!

But what is it?

Weekly Photo Challenge: Carefree 4

At the end of yesterday’s post I showed part of an insect to be identified…..so here’s the whole photo of Güktürk Grasshopper (pronounced Gerkterk) found at Tlos in Turkey on my recent holiday….

Güktürk sat very still and contemplated his next move!

Güktürk sat very still and contemplated his next move!

Which was to jump away of course!

But look who I found back in dear old Blighty…..

Meet Spangly the Speckled Bush Cricket!

Meet Spangly the Speckled Bush Cricket!

Spangly was nowhere near a bush…in fact, he was on my living room door! I tried to take a photo but couldn’t and didn’t have any success ’til my partner held up a pair of my white trousers (waiting to be ironed-where is that fairy these days?) behind the glass.

I decided to relocate Spangly onto a lupin in my garden….

"What the...where the....mmmm lupin!' stuttered Spangly wondering what on earth had just happened to him!

"Oooh I feel all awkward and the wrong way up!" said Spangly to himself!

“Oooh I feel all awkward and the wrong way up!” said Spangly to himself!

Spangly then began the turn around….

"Round we go." said Spangly cheerfully even though he had some trouble with those long legs of his!

Whatever are those pincers on your bottom for Spangly?

Then the eating of my beloved lupin began!

"Mmmmm!"

“Mmmmm!”

"How kind is that photographer woman, putting me onto this tasty lupin!"

“How kind is that photographer woman, putting me onto this tasty lupin!”

"Yummmm!"

“Yummmm!”

"Num num!" said Spangly in ecstasy, not realising that in a few short moments, I would whisk him off my dear lupin and away into the grass!

Isn’t he gorgeous!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Carefree 3

More holiday snaps!!

But with a slight difference and if you saw yesterday’s blog, you would know that the topic today is concerning saucy Stinkbugs…..

I also happen to think that these Stinkbugs (Shieldbugs aka Eurydema Ornata!) are totally carefree….they certainly didn’t seem to mind a camera hovering above them!

Look…

IMG_6275

Yes, they’re mating!!

IMG_6276

And they don’t care who knows it!

IMG_6292

I just think they are stunning and very beautiful!

Now, can you guess who this is? I have zoomed right in so it makes it a little more difficult for you!

Beautiful pattern!

Anyway….go on….have a guess!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Carefree 2

Yesterday I posted photos of sunlight on flowers from my holiday, but I finished with a photo of a small red and black insect who I promised to introduce you to properly today. Well here he is…..

May I present Stefan Stink Bug!

May I present Stefan Stink Bug!

To give him his full title Stefan Stink Bug-from the Family-True Shieldbugs (Pentatomidae) with the other name of Eurydema Ornata!!

On holiday in Turkey we visited an ancient archaeological site called Tlos, where there is a fortress built high in the mountains…..and I mean high….look….

It was between 40 and 50 degrees C when we climbed up here!

It was between 40 and 50°C when we climbed up here!

Anyway, at the top there was this bush that was completely covered in these little critters…..

Lots eh?

Lots eh?

You can see that there are two different sorts of these shield bugs....

Well if you’re observant you can…look hard!

So there was Stefan Stink Bug and this is Zena Stink Bug!

There was Stefan Stink Bug previously and this is Zena Stink Bug!

So this is Zena from the Family-True Shieldbugs (Pentatomidae) with the other name of Zicrona Caerulea (Zena Zicrona for short)!

Here’s some more of them…..

They apparently suck the sap of plants especially those in the brassica family (cabbage etc)!

Tomorrow I will show you photos of the saucier side of the life of these Pentatomidae Stefan and Zena!!

PS Thank you Hazel (findlikin’ good!) for spotting them!
