A Word A Week Challenge: Angle

Here are a few ‘angle’ photos…hope you like them!

Well I couldn't get my neck at an angle like that!

Nor at an angle like this!

Just an interesting angle!

And again!

Pigeon is pretty but look at the duck underneath-strange angle of beak methinks!

Weekly Photo Challenge: In the Background 3

I love watching the birds and over the last few years have noticed that starlings are not as numerous as they were.

However….I have seen more this year and quietly, in the background, they are busy busy busy in my garden getting bugs and flies for their babies….

Look….

Sterling Starling really means business today!

A beakful of food for the babies!

Look at the iridescence of Sterling’s feathers…wow says I!

I can often hear starlings before I see them. To me they sound like they are grating their beaks together-so it’s not the most lovely of sounds, but very distinctive!

Weekly Photo Challenge: In the Background 2

So, as I was saying yesterday….there are many things that go on in the background on an allotment.

For instance, did you know what a rhubarb flower looks like?

You will soon….

All bundled up, looking very like a rhubarb and custard sweet!

So pretty!

So pretty!

Then it emerges into this!!

Then it emerges into this!!

Then, the life in the old wooden composter that I took apart……

This chap is a 'yellow white-lipped snail'!

This chap is a ‘yellow white-lipped snail’!

Then there’s this ‘brown lipped snail’ who has taken up hurdling I think!

"This green blade o' grass is no match for me!" said Bouncer Brown Garden Snail bravely.

"Here we go....head up, and...."

“Here we go….head up, and….”

"There we are, over we go!"

“There we are, over we go!”

It's all downhill now!

It’s all downhill now!

Then there’s the snail from yesterday’s blog looking like he has just woken up! Oh he’s a brown garden snail.

I think he's wondering what's going on!

Weekly Photo Challenge: In the Background

I’ve been spending lots of time at our allotment.

Here are a few things that have been there in the background whilst heavy digging has been taking place!

We took apart an old composter and tried to reconstruct it somewhere else and look who we found with a hitchhiker attached!

So That’s What the Pigeons did!!! Part 4 ;)

This evening my ‘pet pigeons’ were canoodling once more on my fence, so in this set of photos they are no longer looking the other way….these, my lovelies, are full frontal pigeon shots!

Peony Pigeon and Picardy Pigeon had been flying from aerial to roof top to tree and back again for about 20 minutes, so when they finally settled on the fence, I had to move at break neck speed to the back door in order to get these photos!

"Shall we?" said Peony.

“Shall we?” said Peony.

"My pleasure!" said Picardy.

“My pleasure!” said Picardy.

Let the aerobatics commence!

How fluffy are you Picardy Pigeon!

"Elbows up Peony!" shouted Picardy all of a dither!

“Elbows up Peony!” shouted Picardy all of a dither!

"Ta da!" cooed Picardy triumphantly!

I hope you have enjoyed my Pigeon Posts!

What the Pigeons Did Next- Part 3!

So….we have had the Preening……we have had the Smooching…

What’s next?

Well I can tell you next it’s the Shimmying up and the Balancing!!

"That's right Peony, down a bit...that's right!" said Picardy, knowing that he didn't want to have to jump too much feeling as he did!

“That’s right Peony, down a bit…Ah yes!” said Picardy, knowing that he didn’t want to have to jump too much feeling as he did!

"How's that for height now?" questioned Peony a little testily, after all, this had been quite a long flirtation for her!

"Yes...yes..that looks good...brace yourself Peony!" said Picardy excitedly!

“Yes…yes..that looks good…brace yourself Peony!” said Picardy excitedly!

And brace herself she did!

"That's good Peony," panted Picardy, "Hold steady now!"

“That’s good Peony,” panted Picardy, “Hold steady now!”

"I said HOLD STEADY PEONY!" shouted Picardy somewhat alarmed a the angle at which Peony was lilting!

Oh no!

This is not good for Picardy's concentration or his reputation!

There’s still more to see of these passionate pigeons and their exploits on the fence!

You’ll just have to come back tomorrow!

What the Pigeons Did Next-Part 2!

This is a follow on blog from yesterday where I showed Peony Pigeon and Picardy Pigeon meeting on my back fence!

I am about to reveal photos of the sex life of pigeons (who’d have thought I’d ever type that sentence!), and I have seen things that I did NOT know pigeons did!!!

LOOK!!!

Peony (the one on the left) looks adoringly at Picardy whilst whispering pigeon sweet nothings in his ear!

Peony seems to be taking the lead whilst Picardy looks perhaps a little startled!

Is this what you might call 'pigeon puckering up'?

Open wider!

Open wide!

Oh my!!

Is it just me or does Peony look a little sleazy?

Open wide!

Oh me oh my!

Heavy beaking going on here I think!

Eyes glazing over?

Zig a zig ahhhh!

Just look at Picardy's foot...I think he's good to go now!!

You will just have to wait until tomorrow for the rest of the photos of this tongue tickling event!!

What the Pigeons Did Next……?

I pretend I have pet pigeons……it amuses me to think of having pet pigeons with no need of a cage, cleaning or feeding….in fact they don’t even mind when I’m away on holiday! They really are no bother!

What I also like is the show they put on every evening on my fence. They never seem to get bored of their ritual (which always ends the same way) and at the end of it all, off they fly!

So I thought I would share this nightly performance with you!

Meet Peony Pigeon!

Meet Peony Pigeon!

...And Picardy Pigeon!

…And Picardy Pigeon!

Aha! Picardy has spotted his love interest Peony….

"Time to spruce myself up a little!" thinks Picardy!

“Time to spruce myself up a little!” thinks Picardy!

(Hover on pics to see comments!)

Well….not to be out preened, Peony began her toilette (please pronounce toilette ‘wiz a frrrrrench accent’)

Picardy puts the final touches on himself, also checking his wing pits!

Nearly there!

Nearly there!

A quick ruffle puffle....voila!

A quick ruffle puffle….voila!

They move in closer…..

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: The Season of Spring 2

Come and see some wonderfurl (not an error but a pun!) photos of ferns which appear in the Springtime….

"The important thing to remember is to lean right back and uncurl slowly!" said Ferdinand Fern to his fronds.

“The important thing to remember is to lean right back and uncurl slowly!” said Ferdinand Fern to his fronds and relations.

So that’s just what they did!

"When I grow up I want to be an elephant!" said Felix Fern.

“When I grow up I want to be an elephant!” said Felix Fern.

"I want to be a wooly mammoth!" said Freddie.

“I want to be a woolly mammoth!” said Freddie.

"So do I!" agreed Finn Fern.

“So do I!” agreed Finn Fern.

Freda Fern said nothing as she knew she was magnificent and needed to be nothing except herself! How wise is she? We could all learn from her!

But these next two photos show the ferns with visitors!

"i dunno," said the insect whose name I know not, "every year we have to help the newest ferns and teach them how to unfurl properly!"

“I dunno,” said the insect whose name I know not, “every year we have to help the newest ferns and teach them how to unfurl properly!”

"Well," said the matching insect with no name, "it's just something we know we're going to have to help them with so shut up!" A little aggressive I thought!

A Word A Week Challenge: Face

I was so pleased to be able to get close enough to photograph this goldfinch today…close enough for a good full face shot!

This is quite a relief to me as I have been chasing a flock of them around the fields behind my house for sometime now, sadly to no avail!

So it was great today to hear this little chap singing his heart out in a tree at a garden centre!!
