Rather Pretty Places!

My first rather pretty place is somewhere I pass on the way home from the Dark Side (teaching), and appears as I am slowly adjusting my eyes to my real life (Bright Side).

The rather pretty field on the side of the road called and called.....so I visited and photo-ed!

Sparkly with green tumps!

Just to let you know-I cross over this river on my way to and from the Dark Side but decided to dangerously park up and take photos….

This place is called Water End.

And the obligatory zoom shot!

Such gorgeous water!

To finish I wish to introduce John Lewis the cat….

"Oy!" shouted John, "Can't you see I'm busy? Put yer camera away and leave me alone!"

The Moorhen is Moving Forward…..

Maureen Moorhen knew she should wear her shoe inserts to correct her knock knees but quite frankly, she couldn't be bothered!

Something caught Maureen's eye.....

She was off-racing towards what she had seen....

She soon whizzed past Doris Duck….

"Get out of the way Doris!" shouted Maureen in a most unladylike way!

What was it that had caught Maureen’s eye?

I'm not sure but Dave Duck with the watery chest seems in hot pursuit too!

I think it’s her mate Mike coming home from a long day!

"Maureen, Maureen.....where's me tea?" said Mike much to Maureen's disappointment!

But just to finish now (as I’m tired…what with the dark side and all (teaching that is!)) here’s a gorgeous Tufted Duck….We’ll call him Tureen!

Is There Mushroom For Me?

Nothing like a corny title to introduce fungi!

Interestingly (well I think so!) I bought these mushrooms at a seventh of their original price…I love a bargain. So creamy and soft looking-just what I needed after a day like today!

So creamy and soft looking-just what I needed after a day like today!

And another one….

I shall call this one 'Blinded by the light'!

I shall call this one ‘Blinded by the light’!

How can I resist an ‘up and under’ photo?

Cheeky!

Cheeky!

Just a couple more….

"Who has wrenched us with unfortunate hand?" exclaimed the exotic mushrooms..."Whither are we off to?"

“Who has wrenched us with unfortunate hand?” exclaimed the exotic mushrooms…”Whither are we off to?”

Sadly, mushroom buddies, your destiny is my stomach!

"We will take our fate head on!" said the brave little mushrooms!

Yum yum!

To anyone who knows me personally and knows I went over to the dark side today (also known as a classroom) this is how I prepared myself…..

In a night of prayer at the altar!

Whilst girding my loins as follows!

Should keep me safe!

All went well!

Zooming with my camera is one of my favourite things to do….

Some of you have met Tanundra Turkey and here he is, up close and personal!

Keep Your Hair On (Heron-Get it?))- Part Two

So today is the day to meet Blair the Blue Heron. First spotted along the canal just after I saw Gregory the Grey Heron (see yesterday’s post!).

Here he is….

Oh how long will you stay still Blair?

Oh how long will you stay still Blair?

He did stay there for a few more minutes….

Just a little closer....

Just a little closer….

It didn’t take Blair long to think he’d had enough and off he flew.

But three cheers for the press and take loads of photos in swift succession setting on my camera…..

IMG_1116 IMG_1117 IMG_1118 IMG_1119 IMG_1120 IMG_1121 IMG_1122

Is it just me or is Blair trying to form letters with his wings and perhaps send us a message?

Maybe not!

But he did stop a little further on and pose in a beautiful manner and if you look hard you can see the strange hairy feathery bits on his back that made Gregory the Grey Heron rather jealous yesterday!

"Oh blimey she's still there!" said Blair somewhat wearily!"Time to leave!"

“Time to leave!”

And that's Blair on his way!

And that’s Blair on his way!

Aren’t I lucky living where I do with all this on my doorstep!

Keep Your Hair On (Heron…get it?)-Part One

What a lovely place to walk-Marsworth/Tring reservoir…..

Whatever could be lurking within these reeds?

Whatever could be lurking within these reeds?

"Nehhh," moaned Grey the Grey Heron to no-one in particular and anyone who would listen, "My life hasn't gone as I would have liked it....pah! When I think of Blair Blue Heron and his life....nyargghhh...it makes my neck retract and my eyes hard!"

Poor Gregory thinks he’s hard done by!

"What's that over there? Something for my tea? Bet Blair doesn't have my problems with his beautiful beak, long neck and strange and wispy hairy bits down his back!" sniped Gregory.

“What’s that over there? Something for my tea? Bet Blair doesn’t have my problems with his beautiful beak, long neck and strange and wispy hairy bits down his back!” sniped Gregory.

When will we meet Blair?

"Hmpf...nothing to eat there after all!" said Gregory!

“Hmpf…nothing to eat there after all!” said Gregory!

Oh dear, I think we need some blessed relief from Gregory….

"I am your blessed relief!" quacked Tessa the Tufted Duck who remembered Adrienne well! For those of you who don't know Adrienne, sadly it's your loss!

"I'm wondering whether the plum burgundy I used for my hair is very flattering?" questioned Tessa.

Meanwhile Gregory still felt great resentment towards Blair who we will not meet til tomorrow at the scheduled release of my Friday post!

"I'm off then!" said Gregory!

Gail Gull is Bang on Trend!

I tried a new ‘thing’ (technical I know!) on my camera and that is the ‘take loads one after another’ facility.

It’s your lucky day as I am about to let you see some of the results!

These are taken in Marlow, Buckinghamshire (where my dear mama lives), down by the riverside (as the song goes!).

Enough parenthesis already!

"Oh she's back again!" shouted Grenadine, "You remember her, the one with the camera...what's she going to do now there's no black swan to take all her attention? I suppose she'll just have to put up with us instead!"Oh dear, what a bitter outlook Grenadine!

"Oy!" shouted Gavin to Gail as he posed the 'Angel Wing', " What are you doing Gail?"

“Oy!” shouted Gavin to Gail as he posed the ‘Angel Wing’, ” What are you doing?”

"Who me?" answered Gail a little breathlessly, "I'm going to be the first gull to be able to fly backwards....watch!"

“Who me?” answered Gail a little breathlessly, “I’m going to be the first gull to be able to fly backwards….watch!”

Gavin and many other gulls watched with baited breath….

"I'm doing it, I'm doing it!" exclaimed Gail excitedly.Even Gander the Goose couldn't take his eyes off her!

“I’m doing it, I’m doing it!” exclaimed Gail excitedly.
Even Gander the Goose couldn’t take his eyes off her!

It seemed Gail was a trendsetter!

It seemed Gail was a trendsetter as other gulls copied her!

Gaberdine Gull had become obsessed with the colour white even though technically speaking in art, white is the absence of all colour !) and had managed to dye her feet white and hung in the sky showing all and sundry what she had done!

A Word a Week Challenge: Industrial 2

My second contribution to this challenge…Industrial.

This idea comes from Sue aka Skinnywench.

You can visit her at:

I am very lucky as where I live in the UK has some beautiful countryside and also an amazing canal network.

Canals were needed for the Industrial Revolution in the UK which was creating huge amounts of heavy produce which had to be moved. Roads simply could not handle such weights and the vehicles needed to move this produce did not exist. Canals were the answer to moving heavy objects large distances.

This section of the canal near Marsworth has a lot of locks.
