Tired Horses, Moss and a Tit with a Long Tail!

Off I went, gung ho!, with camera in hand hoping for some excitement in the wildlife section of my life!

Out of the car…

Down the track…

Look to the left and who’s this slumbering and sleeping in the corner of the field rather selfishly a little further away than I would like!

There’s a song that goes…’Horsey horsey don’t you stop’!
Seems like these chaps haven’t heard of it!

 

Just in case you missed horse number 3 in the background….

What could they have been up to earlier today?

I’m sure to the horsey type this is something they have seen before, but I have never seen a horse completely crashed out with his head on the ground like the one at the back before!

“Oy!” cawed Magnus Magpie, (he is there in the front!) “Shift yourself Harvey…you’re in my way!”

 

Must be about time for the moss….

No comments, just two photographs that I rather like….

This beautiful green is as I found it in the woods…there’s been no tinkering with photoshop etc!

As I walked on I heard a whole load of tweeting and saw this chap having a wash in a little stream.

It’s not my best photo but they move so fast that I’m pleased to have got anything!

“It’s a lovely day for having a wash in a muddy stream oh yeah!” sang Lenin Longtail.

 

And then…..

“If my tail were shorter, then it wouldn’t always drag in the water, but then I wouldn’t live up to my ‘Long Tailed Tit’ name….ah well!” sighed Lenin in an accepting things kind of way!

Travel Theme: Walls 2

Today we are based in and near Ivinghoe, a little village in the UK, for some wall pictures.

Firstly the rather lovely old windmill with its rather lovely curved walls!….

Windy Miller didn’t like the blustery weather and stayed inside!

 

 

But now to the village church with its various walls…..

Made with flint and sandstone (as far as I could see…but I’m no expert!)

 

Voila….flint!

 

This photo with its frame within a frame was, I confess, a lucky accident! (Note the flint and sandstone!)

 

On the church perimeter walls….

“Ooh my roots are cramped!” said Lilian Little Plant, “But there’s such a lovely view of the village green from here!”

 

And finally, the view at the top of the spire……

“STARLING GET OFF MY BACK!” shouted Clive Cockerel who had had just about enough of those wretched birds tweeting and swooping all day and every day!

Is It Something I Said?

Whilst perusing my photographs I suddenly noticed how many of the creatures I photograph are totally ignoring me!!

Well, have a look and see if I’m right!

“Ducks…listen to me…ignore mad camera woman and she’ll soon go away!” hissed Suzuki Swan!

“The only thing to do now is RUN even if it doesn’t work in water….RUN Christine RUN!” screeched Corinne the moment she espied the camera!

“Don’t look now but she’s back!” whispered Darren to the other two!

“I shall keep my beak in the air and continue with my course, thus letting her believe I haven’t seen her….mwah ha ha ha!” cackled Carrie Cormorant!

“Hey Geraint,” quacked Des, “Put your head under your wing like me… that’ll spoil her shot!”

And that’s only the water birds!

Look it continues…..

“Eat my shorts!” said Randy as he turned on his heels and left!

“I shall be glad when this snow has gone and I look white once again!” sighed Perry.
“Shhh! she’s back again…look the other way and look casual!” neighed Pint-size!

“Resist the urge to stare like we usually do…Ewes, eyes forward….copy me!” baa-ed Shirley!

“Tweet tweet! Not looking at you, Tweet tweet, There’s nothing you can do!” said Basil rather unkindly!

Fortunately some creatures are not so unkind!

Henry came up to see what was going on and didn’t ignore me!

“Wonder when you’ll give me something to eat!” said Rocky contentedly sitting in the sun.

But Whose Feet are These Feet?

There I was, by the canal again, walking and walking with camera at the ready, when who should I encounter?

I wonder if anyone would recognise him just by his feet!

Them’s big feet them is! But is the beak a give away?

 

For those of you who read my blog on 24th Jan “A little birdie told me”, you will know that Mr. Round Robin featured in this post and that he was obviously named ‘Round’ due to his stature! Well, I wonder what we should call the owner of these feet as he seems to have the same propensity towards the spherical!

“Hey you…camera woman, I think it’s a little unfair of you to come a creepin’ up on me like that and then suggesting I am on the spherical side of life!” cawked (yes I do mean cawked-it’s my word and I like it!) Monroe Moorhen tetchily!

 

And with that, Monroe stormed off!

“That’ll teach her to malign me….now on with the search for those lovely round Kendal mint cakes!” said Monroe.

 

I wasn’t sure whether or not to help Monroe as he seemed to not see the mint cake so close to his beak!

“It must be round here somewhere!” said Monroe in a rather irritated way! “I knew I should have brought my glasses!”

He looked and looked….

“Maybe it’s under this leaf?” said Monroe in a hopeful sort of way!

 

In the end he shouted to his partner Marilyn who didn’t know and didn’t care about the location of the mint cake!

“Marilyn, Marilyn, where did you say you saw it?” shouted Monroe.

 

It was no good, no matter how hard Monroe looked he just could not find the mint cake and decided that he and Marilyn would have to put up with grass for their tea instead that evening!

“Um yum!” said Monroe in a completely nonplussed way!

A Little Birdie Told Me!

How strange, how strange! I was out a walking when I heard a tweet from a nearby tree…..

“‘Ere mad camera woman….wanna see somefing amazin’?” said Roger ( ‘Round’ to his friends!)

 

Well how could I resist such a question and I greedily said “I do!”

“Right lady…go down past the hungry squirrel….” said Round mysteriously!

 

What could I do but follow instructions? Not far along I found the squirrel…

“Mmmmm yum lovely nut mmmm burp oops pardon hee hee hee!” muttered Cyril in between rapidly eating his nuts!

 

Fortunately Round followed me and gave further directions….

“Look at me….look at me. Right now I have your attention, next you gotta find the old gull who looks like he needs false teeth standin’ on the ice!”

 

My adventure continued and I soon found him….

“I’m too old for this lark.” said Gordon sadly, “My feet are freezing and quite frankly I’m sick of Round using me as a landmark for goodness knows what!”

 

I wondered what was next and I didn’t have to wait long…

“Good you’re keepin’ up, at least you’re not as thick as you look!” said Round rather rudely in my opinion! “So,” he continued whilst I tried not to be offended, “Now you gotta find the pointy beaky bird sitting on the lake wiv drops of water on his back! Could be a grebe!”

Off I went once more thinking this had better be worth it.

Grebe found….

“Can a man with a hatchet face cut up a side street?” thought Geraint idly, not really knowing what he was thinking about or what indeed it meant!

 

What would be next?

Where was Round?

“Oy I’m here! Keep walkin’ straight ahead and that’s where you’ll see the ghosts of four ducks who lost their heads last winter. Their spirits come and re-visit every year around this time! Now come back tomorrow and I’ll let you know what you can do for me!” said Round as he prepared to fly off!

 

And there, true to Round’s word, were the duck ghosts!!!!

Canal Comfrey!

What a Coot!

Whilst out walking by a lake today I noticed several wildfowl entertaining themselves!

“Oy Callum!” shouted Cornelius from the right side of the picture(!), “How about a race?”
“Ok!” said Callum perhaps a little unenthusiastically!

Cornelius set about organising Callum to the starting place….

“Righty-ho!” said Cornelius, ‘I found just the spot to start the race, over here Callum!”
Callum, however was not listening!

Eventually Callum sauntered over trying to look cool as he had just fallen through the ice!

The race began and it has to be said that Cornelius stormed ahead!

Callum fell behind mostly due to his decision to hop rather than run!

The winner……

“You’re the man….you’re the man!” chanted Cornelius to his reflection in the ice!

Rodrigo’s Sweet Sister and Mr. Skylark!

I’m still chasing those birds in the bush! They’re still flying away as soon as my boot crunches the snow!

However, my previously mentioned stealth and cunning worked again today…..

“Rodrigo, Rodrigo!” called Rosanna hoping to find her brother.

The look on Rodrigo’s face made it clear to Rosanna that he did NOT want to be found!

Poor Rosanna….

Rosanna knew the best thing to do when Rodrigo was like this was to close her beak and mind her own business!

But it wasn’t long before……

“Dum dum da da da da da bob bob bobbin’ along!” sang Rosanna wishing she could remember all the words to the song!

Here’s Sidney Skylark whose demeanour looks as frosty as the weather!

“You’d be feeling frosty too if your beak had ice on like mine has!” retorted Sidney!
